Panasonic AW-UE160 vs. Sony FR7

Comparison between Sony ILME FR7 and Panasonic AW-UE160

When you have the panasonic AW-UE160 and the Sony FR7 you’ve got the 2 best PTZ camera’s for broadcasting purposes at the market today. But which one is the best? We’ll make the comparison for you and depending on what you want to achieve, each has it’s own advantages.

Panasonic

We believe that the panasonic AW-UE160 is the best for broadcasting purposes when it’s combined with other camera’s. Thanks to the high- level sensitivity it will give proper images even in dark conditions.

In general the colours are easier to match with for example Sony or Grassvalley broadcast camera’s. and the viewer will not see the difference between the 2 images.

Offcourse it supports up to 4K HDR resolution and new to this camera is that it can give directly SDI, NDI or SMPTE 2110. with the limitations on the 10GbE SFP for SMPTE 2110 it can’t give out 4K uncompressed 2110 signals at this stage. Maybe it will be possible in the future?

Even the highspeed shooting (2x normal speed) is a great advantage when it comes to Esports.

Technical:

It supports POE++ so you can reduce the cabling towards the camera.
1 Ethernet cable when working on NDI.

or 2 cables when working on SDI/SMPTE 2110 (bnc or fiber) and offcourse the ethernet connection.

Sony ILME-FR7

When it comes to the sony camera the biggest difference is that it will give you a full frame sensor image which gives a much more cinematographic image then the panasonic camera.

This can be very usefull in setups for recording on big sensor camera’s. who needs to have a more into depth image.

it has an E-mount so it is possible to swap lenses on the camera. which also makes it more flexible than the panasonic camera.

as the camera is based on the FR7 it has recording possiblities inside the camera. again very usefull when you record a interview and do the editing in post production to give it a specific LUT. Also for livestreaming or remote productions this camera can handle the SRT protocol directly which gives the opportunity to direct go into the cloud. but

Conclusion

Each camera has it’s advantages and it isn’t possible to take out one of them as true winner. It is really depending on what you want to achieve as a result. But they are both gamechangers when it comes towards small productions.
